Raisin Doughnut Puffs

Quick to prepare, these spicy puffs, dusted with powdered or cinnamon sugar, have a crunchy crust and a firm textured interior. Raisins give thm a bit of chewiness and nutmeg blends the flavors together well.

Frying temp:   375 degrees F


Raisin Doughnut Puffs

For 12 biscuits you will need:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • dash nutmeg
  • dash salt
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

    • 1. In mixing bowl beat egg. Gradually add sugar and beat until very light. Stir in sour cream. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Stir in the raisins. Add to egg mixture, stirring until smooth.
    • 2. Chill dough 1 hr or more.
    • 3. Roll out on lightly floured board to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a round cutter, 1 to 1 1/2-inches in diameter. Make an "x" slash on top of each with a sharp knife.
    • 4. Fry in hot oil at 375 degrees F for 2 to 3 min or until golden and cooked through the middle.
    • 5. Mix sugar and cinnamon. Dust the hot-cooked puffs with mixture or dust with plain powdered sugar.


    Tips: Puffs are best served hot out of the fryer, but you can reheat fried puffs in oven at 350 degrees F before serving, if desired.

    Good Served with: Spiced apple cider or mulled wine.
